VICENZA
World
Heritage and splendid city of art, known as "City
of Palladio," for the treasures that the famous architect
Padua there profuse.
Heart of the city is Piazza dei Signori
where you overlook some important monuments including the Palladian
Basilica, built to consolidate a Gothic building with the adjoining
tower 82 meters high, acquired in 1311 by the City in
1378, which will be the first clock in the city.

La Loggia del Capitanio, Palladio's work remained unfinished
and painted by Titian and Paris Bordone, and the Monte di Pietà,
built in the second half of'400.
Corso Palladio that follows
is a sample of some of centuries of Venetian palaces and churches of
great interest. Starting from Piazza Castello, on the
one hand that keeps the unfinished Breganze Palace, begun by Scamozzi
designed by Palladio, Palazzo Bonin then attributed
to Palladio and built by Scamozzi. Opposite is the Palazzo Piovene.
Then Palazzo Loschi Zileri created by Otto Calderari
in the second half of'700, the church of S. Filippo Blacks
rebuilt to 1730, Palazzo Braschi rebuilt on the original
forms of'400 after the war, and the Palazzo Trissino Scamozzi,
now the town hall. Then Palazzo da Schio,
also called the Ca 'd'Oro, a splendid construction of the'400,
and the church S. Corona, magnificent Romanesque building,
with works by P. G. Veronese and Bellini. Later, the House Palladio,
a small building with a beautiful facade.
In
Piazza Matteotti faces Chiericati
Palace, one of the most prestigious works of Palladio
himself, headquarters of the Civic Museum, with collections
palaeontology, objects d'art and an art gallery.
Also
in the square is the entrance to the complex of buildings that enclose
the Teatro Olimpico with
semielliptical wooden staircase and the proscenium full of statues.
Started in 1580 by Palladio few months before his death was completed
in 1584 by his son Silla and the Scamozzi.
The
DUOMO, restructured several
times over the centuries has a beautiful facade. Inside is a work of
Domenico Veneziano and the main altar carved by Giovanni da Pedemuro.
Church of St. Katherine, retains some important paintings by
artists such as Celestial, Liberi, carp and the Old. Church
of Aracoeli , designed by Guarini, and paintings and
statues of Release of Marimali. Church of St. Stefano, where
there is a tabernacle painted by Tiepolo and the work of Palma Vecchio.
The happy position of the railway station allows the visitor who arrives
in Vicenza to reach in a few moments the old town.
